Book Description: Book two of The Devan Chronicles. King Pergann is assassinated by a traitor close to him leaving Deva leaderless. Keverin is summoned to attend the council of lords so that a new King might be chosen, but upon entering the capital it becomes obvious that his problems are much greater than he first feared.

The treachery that caused the death of a king pervades the council with many of the lords openly supporting Lord Ascol and alliance with the Protectorate. Book one of The Devan Chronicles... Lord Keverin is desperate to save his people and the kingdom he serves from the sorcerers of the Protectorate. Desperate times call for desperate measures...

From the Back Cover: A year on from Julia Morton’s tumultuous arrival at Fortress Athione, an uneasy truce is being maintained between Deva and her enemies, but the Protectorate never rests.

Believing himself destined to rule Waipara, Lord Mortain unleashes General Navarien upon the north in an attempt to bypass Julia’s guardianship of Deva’s western border. Meanwhile, having rallied the scattered forces of a dead traitor behind him, Rowton of Ascol moves ahead with his plans by murdering the King. With Pergann dead, and the lords vying for his throne, it is up to Julia to ensure the right man for the job is chosen. She has the perfect one in mind, but it will take all her skill and diplomacy to achieve. When things begin to go wrong, Julia resorts to force, but sorcerers won’t be pushed and soon the lighting bolts fly again over Deva.

Reviews:
The Power That Binds continues the story of Julia Morton's arrival in Deva. A year has passed since the events chronicled in The God Decrees, and Julia has settled into her new life with Keverin, but Lord Mortain is now ready to continue his campaign to conquer Deva.

The book shows a much deeper and richer view of Deva and its people. The first book concentrated on Julia and her decisions, this one shows us the consequences of those decisions and how they will likely effect not only her future, but the future of the entire world. The various kingdoms and empires are busy realigning themselves to either ally or oppose Julia and are blind to the threat that the Tamorshin empire poses. I'm looking forward to the next book called The Warrrior Within. I'm hoping there might be more on the old ones mentioned in the first book and hinted at in the second. -- An Amazon reviewer.
